Piet is an autobody repairman by trade and had his shop in the building owned by Gerrit van der Burg. After he married Amanda (Mand,Zus,Tante Mandje), they lived for a time with the family Zandbergen on the Emmapark. They also lived on the Oostlaan and on the Uitpad # 6. Nothing remains of the Uitpad area.

Piet, Amanda, and their four children emigrated to Canada on May 8, 1953 and took up residence in Welland, Ontario. Piet began work soon after at Forbes Motors, later to become Jantzi-Brown and then Jantzi Motors. His brother Wim took over the repair shop in Pynacker and continued the business for many years.
