- Lenard Lucas
of Niagara Falls (son of parishioner Olga Lucas) passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 59th year. Lenard was born in Welland on July 14, 1950 to Olga (nee Sokoloski) and the late Nick Lucas. Lenard is survived by his son Nicholas, daughters Alicia and Sarah, wife Eileen, sister Donna Lucas-Astley and nephew Richard Astley. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and Notre Dame and enjoyed a successful career in Real Estate sales for almost 40 years as well as owning other successful businesses. Lenard had a passion for fishing and golfing and enriched the lives of others with his wisdom, love and great sense of humour.
The family received their friends at J. J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Wednesday, January 14th from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. where a Vigil will be held at 7 p.m.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, January 15th at 1 p.m.
Rite of Committal followed at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens.

- Damiano Caporicci
passed away at the Welland Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, in his 76th year. Beloved husband of Letizia (nee Giangaspero). Loving father of Guy (Terry) and Joe (Christine). Cherished grandfather of Bryan (Allison), Robert, Joseph, Kimberly and Jimmy. Dear brother-in-law of Angelina Caporicci, Carmelina DiLazzaro, Nella and Ralph Anania and Vince and Lydia Giangaspero. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Precedeased by his brother Leonardo Caporicci and brother-in-law Alfredo DiLazzaro. Damiano was born May 3, 1933 in Provvindenti, Campo Basso, Italy and came to Canada in 1950. He worked at Wabasso Cotton Mill as a stationary engineer for 35 years until his retirement in 1985 and was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and Seniors Club.
The family received their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Friday, January 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where Rev. Stan Bijak will conduct a Vigil at 2 p.m.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, January 24th at 11 o’clock.
Rite of Committal followed at Pleasantview Mausoleum.

- Richard Costello
It is with extreme sadness that the family of Richard Costello announces his passing on Sunday February 8, 2009 in his 63rd year. He died suddenly at home.
Loving husband of Carole (Noel) Costello, cherished father of Danny Costello (Michelle) and Sheri Gagnon (John) both of Ottawa, also cherished grandpa to Emma and Adam Costello and Zoe Gagnon. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Stella, his brothers Albert and Raymond, his sister-in-law Janet Costello. He is survived by sister-in-law Micheline and Paul Lemay and Johanne Costello as well by several nephews and nieces. Richard was an active member of AA for 27 years and had been retired from the Welland Hospital for 7years. Whatever Rick did, fishing, woodworking or metal detecting he did with gusto. He was counting the days to reopen his cottage.
The family received relatives and friends at the Welland Funeral Home 827 East Main Street Welland (905)735-1883 on Tuesday, February 10th from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 11th at Sts Peter and Paul Church at 11am. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery. If desired donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Welland Hospital will be greatly appreciated by the family.

- Janina Recynski
passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Credit Valley Hospital in her 75th year.
Beloved wife of Richard. Loving mother of Wanda Hope (Jim) and Tina Doane. Cherished grandmother of Jacob, Sarah, Olivia, Alicia, Brodie and Cameron. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and many friends. Jane was born in Poland and came to Welland in 1949.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, March 12th at 11 o’clock. Private Rite of Committal at a later date.

Friday, March 20 - Maria Szulecki
passed away at the Welland General Hospital at the age of 88 years.
She is survived by her loving daughter Teresa Picton (Brian). Loving grandmother of David Picton (Kathy) and Kris Tessier (Bernie). Proud great grandmother of Sara, Madalyn, Megan and Natalie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Poland. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony Szulecki (1980) and her brothers and sisters in Poland. She was a long time member of Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Polish Legion, Branch 558 and a member of the Canadian Polish Society. Maria was a veteran, serving with the British Forces during WWII after having survived deportation to the Siberian Work Camps and her subsequent return journey through the Middle East.
The family received their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers were held at the funeral home on Sunday at 3 o’clock.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church on Monday March 23, 2009 at 11 o’clock. Rite of Committal followed at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mrs. Szulecki may be made to the Lupus Foundation of Ontario or the McMaster Children's Hospital.

Sunday, April 5 - Bernice Krysiak (Piaskorska)
passed away peacefully at Trillium Court Seniors Community Kincardine, with her family at her side in her 88th year.
Loving mother of Margaret Firth (Gary) and Tom (Patricia). Cherished grandmother of Krista, Paula (Joseph Stomp) and Dennis and great grandmother of Evan, Nolan and Aaron Stomp. She was predeceased by her husband Jozef, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Bernice was active in the Polish Community and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Polish Hall in Welland and the Catholic Women’s League in Kincardine. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed sewing, crafts and gardening.

Saturday, May 30 - John Stawiarz
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of John Stawiarz announces his sudden passing at the Welland Hospital at the age of 82.
John was a devoted family man and leaves many wonderful memories. He leaves behind his cherished wife of almost 60 years, Stefania, and his daughters Chris Pearson (Joel), Liz Meleskie (Eddy) and Barb Stawiarz. He was a doting grandfather and will live forever in the hearts of his grandchildren Mark, Katelyn and Vanessa. He will be sadly missed by his best friend Benji, the family pet. Born in Poland, he immigrated to Canada and worked at Noranda mines for 10 years before moving to Welland. Here he was employed with Atlas Specialty Steels for many years until his retirement. He was also an avid gardener, caring for his flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. His pride for his Polish heritage was displayed through his extensive involvement at the Polish Community Centre, where he tended to the grounds, performed property maintenance, assisted at the various functions and enjoyed bingo with fellow members. He was also a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church where he served in various capacities.
John was able to see the good in everyone, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Truly, he will be missed.

Sunday, May 31 - Congratulations and best wishes to our Deacon Gerry Demers. He is celebrating today the 1st anniversary of his ordination by Bishop James Wingle.
Monday, June 2 - 12:30 p.m. - Sts Peter & Paul Seniors Club will enjoy their Annual June BBQ at the Parish Hall starting at 2:30 PM. Cost is $2 each on arrival.
Tuesday, June 16 - our former pastor Fr. Jan Wądołowski, OMI celebrated his 30th Anniversary of Priesthood today. Fr. Jan is now a pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish in downtown Toronto.

On the occasion of your 30th anniversary of your ordination to the Priesthood, the parishioners and pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Welland, Ontario would like to extend our sincerest best wishes and congratulations to you. Our parish community will be forever indebted to you for your leadership during the construction of our new church. The sorrow we shared as a result of the devastating fire that destroyed our old church was quickly replaced by jubilation when we were able to participate in the Eucharist celebrated by you in our new church. The time and prayers we shared during your stay with us remain in our thoughts and we continue to hold dearly in our hearts the friendship we shared. You will always be in our prayers and we look forward to your visits. May God continue to bestow His blessings on you and the parish community of St. Stanislaus.

Thursday, July 2 - Edith Kalmats (Cendese)
passed away on Thursday July 2, 2009 at Welland Hospital Extended Care Unit at the age of 78 years.
Loving mother of Dan (Rosanne) of Burlington and Dave (Marilyn) of Welland. Dear grandmother of Davey and Greg. She is survived by her brother Ivan Cendese (Jan) of Salt Lake City, Utah and her sister Louise Nonni (Duillio) of Thorold. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Alice Cendese and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William Kalmats (1998), her parents Giocomo and Angela Cendese, brothers Louis Cendese and Mario Cendese and her sister Inez Cendese.
The Kalmats family received their friends at J. J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland on Sunday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9. The Vigil Prayers will be held in the funeral home at 3 o’clock.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church on Monday July 6, 2009 at 11 o’clock. Cremation followed with Interment of Cremated Remains at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.

passed away at the Welland Hospital Extended Care at the age of 93.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 67 years, Gertrude Wiznoski (nee Jewell). Loving father of Bev Curran, Patricia McInnis, Carol Gilmour and Gail Broatch. Dear grandfather of James Curran (Elaine), Tom Curran (Jody), Paul McInnis, Charlene McKay (Rob), Heather McInnis, Allan McInnis, Cyndy Best (Howard), Ed Rice (Dana), Mary Lou Papachristou and Heather Broatch. Proud great grandfather of James and Jordan Curran, Brad and Greg Lavele, Dale, Kaleigh and Jared McKay, Robyn, James, Stephanie and Erica Best and Robert, Ashley and James Rice. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Ceceilia Wiznoski, brother Theodore Wiznoski, sister Anne Kovacs and son-in-law James Curran. Mr. Wiznoski was a member of the former Royal Canadian Legion Polish Branch 558.
The Wiznoski family received their family and friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland on Saturday, August 8th until 1 p.m. The funeral followed in the chapel at 1 o’clock with Reverend Stan Bijak OMI officiating. Cremation to follow with a private interment at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Monday, August 10 - Rose Marie Labeau (Nawotka) passed away peacefully at Northland Pointe in her 86th year.
Loving wife of Stephen (Steve) who passed away January 18, 1979. Rose is survived by her brother Stanley Nawotka (Anne), sister Irene Nawotka, sister and brother in law Sophie and Gaye Pokol, caring friends Jerry and Anna McDougall, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and also great great nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Steve she was predeceased by her mother Agnes (March 29, 1996) and father Stanley (August 29, 1974). Rose was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish and Sts. Peter and Paul Rosary Society.
Private visitation was held. Friends were invited to the Funeral Mass that was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Thursday morning August 13 at 11 o'clock. Rite of Committal followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Friday, August 14 - Mary "May" Malkevitch (Brodnicki)
passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital.
Beloved wife of the late Frank Malkevitch (1978). Loving mother of Anna Laflamme and Frances LaPorte. Cherished grandmother of Raymond Laflamme, Christopher Laflamme, Joel Laflamme, Lisa Laflamme, Simone Hamm (Wally), Shawn LaPorte (Janet) and Sheldon LaPorte. Dear sister of Sandra Violette (Rick) and Herbie Lohrke. She will be lovingly remembered by her 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son-in-law Glen LaPorte, sister Theresa and brothers Joe, Zack and Bernie. May was a resident of Plymouth Cordage Retirement Home and a long time member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church.

- Nancy Louise Omos
passed away peacefully in her own bed at the age of 51. Proud parents Charles Omos and wife Gina Omos, who were by Nancy’s side, will miss her terribly. Nancy was so very brave through her battle with cancer. Nancy had the support of her family and friends which made her feel comfortable. Nancy had her good sense of humour throughout which made the gloomy days seem bright. Memories will be cherished forever by her only sister Catherine Omos. Stephanie, Nancy’s only niece who was a part of Nancy’s life from the beginning, will miss her aunt. Brothers-in-law Paul, Frank and Gillis will truly miss their Nancy as will her aunt Mary Learn. Predeceased by her brother Joey Omos and uncle Steve Omos. Marlene, Morris, Mini and Micky will truly miss their best friend Nancy.
No visitation. Friends are invited to a memorial service at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Thursday, October 8th at 11:00 AM.

Sunday, October 4 - Ronald Nolet
With saddened heart the family of Ronald announces his passing at the Welland General Hospital at the age of 67.
Loving and devoted husband of Claudette (Seguin) Nolet, cherished father of Brigitte Nolet, Stefanie Desjardins, Chantal Nolet and spouses. Dear brother of Germaine Ethier, Roland, Denis and Daniel. Ronald will be sadly missed by his granddaughter Téa Lochner as well as by his many nieces, nephews and brother and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Rose Anna, brothers Lucien, Gaeten, Léonel and Lauréat. He was a wonderful husband, great dad and grand papa and a good friend to many. Ronald was born in Ste Sabine Station, Quebec. He worked at Whiting's Equipment for over 30years, he also was a volunteer firefighter at Niagara Falls Station #6 for over 15 years.
The family received relatives and friends at the Welland Funeral Home 827 East Main Street Welland on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service was held on Saturday at Église Sacré Coeur at 10am. Cremation followed. Vigil prayers were celebrated Friday evening at 8pm. Sunday, October 25 - Patricia DiMarcatonio
passed away at the Welland General Hospital at the age of 72.
She is survived by her loving children Julie Williams (Paul), George DiMarcantonio (Lori) and Tony DiMarcantonio (Nancy). Loving grandmother of David and Gregory Williams, Christopher, Matthew, Rebecca, Jessica, Tricia and Michael DiMarcantonio. Dear sister-in-law of Josephine Moccia (Luigi), dear aunt to Paul and Jeff Moccia. She was predeceased by her husband Dominic DiMarcantonio (2005) and her parents George and Ruby Daboll. She had worked at the Atlas Steel, Bell Canada and she spent most of her life running Pat’s Variety, which she owned along with her late husband Dominic.

Thursday, November 5 - The shingles on the rectory roof were replaced today. The repair, approved by the Parish Council and arranged by its chairman Tony Gallacccio, was completed by the Parent Roofing at a total cost of $7,350.00. Thank you very much for your continued contributions to our Building Fund.

Sunday, November 22 - 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. -The Sts. Peter and Paul Seniors Club held its Annual Bazaar. The bazaar conveners would like to thank everyone for their continued support and participation.
Tuesday, December 8 - 5:00 p.m. - Sts Peter and Paul Seniors Club will hold their annual CHRISTMAS DINNER at the Polish Hall on Ontario Road. Doors open at 5 PM dinner served at 6 PM. Seven dollars per person will be collected at the door.
Sunday, December 13 - We welcomed to our parish Paul and Andrea Latour from Worldwide Marriage Encounter, who delivered a short presentation about Worldwide Marriage Encounters at all three Sunday Masses and met with parishioners after the liturgy.
Tuesday, December 15 - Stella Domitrek
passed away peacefully with her nieces at her side at Woodlands of Sunset. Stella was the daughter of the late John and Rosa Domitrek of Welland. She was predeceased by her brothers Charles, John and George Domitrek, sisters-in-law Alice and Jean, her beloved sister Mary Cimek, brother-in-law Henry Cimek and niece Donna Cimek. She is survived by her sister-in-law Florence Domitrek, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was loved and cared for by her sister’s daughters, Donna Cimek, Elaine Vyrostko, Gloria Sauder and their families. Elaine and Gloria thank the caring staff at Woodlands of Sunset for their support and love over the years.
The family received their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Friday, December 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Vigil was held at 3 o’clock. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 19 at 11 a.m. Rite of Committal followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Woodlands of Sunset.

Thursday, December 17 - Krystyna Sorek (Joniec) passed away peacefully on Thursday December 17, 2009 at the Welland Hospital at the age of 70. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ryszard Sorek. Loving mother of Marlena Pilarczyk (Zbigniew) of Welland and Tomasz Sorek (Beata) of Guelph. Loving grandmother of Veronika, Szymon (Kaley Calhoun) and Patrick. She will also be sadly missed by her friends. She was predeceased by her parents Jan and Marta Joniec in Poland.
The Sorek family will receive their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Vigil Prayers will be held in the funeral home at 3 o’clock. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 21 at 11 o’clock at Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church. Rite of Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
