February 2 - 7:00 p.m. - Our church held an Ecumenical Prayer Service for Christian Unity with host Pastor Louise Aikman and parishioners from All Peoples Church. A fellowship gathering followed in our Parish Hall.

FR. Vincent Ferdynus, OMI
1911 - 2000

Fr. Vincent Ferdynus Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate, Assumption Province passed a away at his home in Copernicus Lodge, Toronto on Saturday April 29th, at the age of 88.

Fr. Vincent was born September 22, 1911 in Boleslawiec, in the Diocese of Czestochowa, Poland. One of six children born to Nicholas and Waleria (nee Kedzierski), young Vincent entered the Oblate novitiate at Markowice in 1930.  He made his perpetual vows at the Oblate seminary in Obra in 1935 and on June 21, 1936 was ordained to the priesthood.  His sister Irene serves as a nun in France.

After his arrival in Canada in 1937, the newly ordained Oblate served three years as a missionary in Western Canada, following which he accepted the position of assistant pastor at Holy Ghost Parish in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He worked tirelessly in various missions in Manitoba and Saskatchewan as assistant pastor.  In 1950 he was named pastor at St. Stanislaus Parish in Toronto.  Reassigned to the Oblate Province of St. Mary's, Fr. Vincent served as an assistant, then as pastor in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

From 1953 - 1964 Fr. Vincent was serving in Western Canada at various missions in Manitoba and Saskatchewan as well as in Minnesota, U.S.A. volunteering to work with Polish immigrants.

In 1964 Fr. Vincent accepted his obedience as pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Welland, Ontario.  He served there for 19 years until his retirement in 1983 at Copernicus Lodge, Toronto, where he was chaplain.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Casimir's Church in Toronto on May 2, 2000.

“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit” (Acts 8:14-17).

Along with candidates for confirmation we all rejoiced today at the presence of His Excellency our BISHOP JOHN O’MARA and the master of ceremony Fr. Paul Mac Neil in our midst.

May 27 - 5:00 p.m. Mass - Rose Zareski directed the choir from St. Stanislaus Parish in Toronto.

June 3 - On Saturday, July 3rd, Fr. Jan Wadolowski, OMI visited our parish with 90 of his parishioners from St. Hyacinth's Parish in Ottawa.

June 6 - 5:30 p.m. - Sts. Peter & Paul Seniors Club annual Dinner Meeting.

June 10 - 3:00 p.m.Marriage of Alice Zavarella and Raymond Scodellaro.

June 17 - 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Garage Sale held in the Parish Hall.

July - A Funeral Pal used to drape the coffin during funerals, was purchased through donations from our Parishioners.

July 2 - Sunday, July 2, our parish family celebrated two special events in the life of Fr. Stan Bijak, OMI: his Silver Jubilee of Priesthood and 50th birthday.
